Bug is our keeper girl from our 20232 “Deadly Viper Assassin Squad” Litter (Baxter x Brie).

Much like with Lyla, we hadn’t planned on keeping a puppy from Bug’s litter, but Bug (or ‘Blue Racer’ as she was known back then) had other plans for us.

When she was about six weeks old, Bug caught a ‘stomach bug’ of some sort and went downhill fast. None of the rest of her litter were affected, so it’s a bit of mystery why she was so sick. Already a diminutive pup, she lost weight rapidly from not eating, and was weak and chilled for several days.

Ken took to carrying her around inside his sweatshirt, just to keep her warm; and Jen fed her tiny bits of anything she could get into her and gave her syringes of water to try to keep her hydrated.

After 4 scary days, Bug slowly began to come around. For a puppy so young to be so sick she’d lost a lot of ground and was suddenly the smallest pup in the litter. But in true “Bug fashion” she didn’t let it slow her down. She still mixed it up with the bigger pups and was a brave, funny, outgoing girl in every way.

Bug had a special connection with her great-grandma, and our matriarch, Penelope. She only got to be around Penelope for a short while, as Penelope passed away when Bug was only about 8 weeks old. But the time they spent snuggling together on Penelope’s special bed in our kitchen was heartwarming.

Bug seems to have inherited a LOT of great-grand Penelope’s personality, as well. She smart, sassy, and a joy to be around…even when she’s getting into trouble!

She’s stayed diminutive, hardly breaking 20lbs on the scale, but is in breed standard, and is also a very strikingly beautiful girl. She remembers being carried around in Ken’s sweatshirt, so often asks to be picked up and snuggled, which is an easy request to satisfy, given her small size!

She also takes after her grandpa Johnson, and mom, Brie in having the famous ‘snuggle gene’ - she loves to be cuddled and petted, and squints her eyes in happiness when you hit just the right spot.

We’re looking forward to watching her mature, and she’s sure to always bring a smile to our faces, like her mom, Brie and grandma, Lychee.
